Bandung, W Java (ANTARA News) - Arya Permana, a 10-year-old from Karawang, West Java Province, is undergoing treatment at the Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung to reduce his staggering 190kg weight.

"The ideal weight for a child at his age and at 1.47cm height is around 50kg," the head of the team of doctors at the Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung, Julistyo TB, said here on Monday.

Arya had undergone treatment at the hospital earlier in June.

However, on July 2, his parents took him to the hospital again as Arya continued to gain weight despite fasting during the month of Ramadan.

"The situation could turn to be a dangerous one for a child at his age if proper medical treatment was not followed. Obesity is normally caused by an imbalance between energy intake and outtake," Julistyo explained.

Meanwhile, President of Hasan Sadikin Hospital Ayi Djembarsari assured that the hospital and its team of doctors will provide the best medical treatment for Arya, believed to be the worlds most obese kid.

"We are helping Arya reach his ideal weight. It may not be an easy task and requires a long process. He needs to lose around 3/4th of his weight," Djembasari noted.

Arya, a resident of Kampung Pasir Pining of Cipurwasari Village of Karawang District, was taken by his parents, accompanied by District Head of Karawang Cellica Nurrachadiana and Head of East Javas Health Office Alma Lucyati, to the Hasan Sadikin Hospital for treatment on Monday around 13:15 local time.

Aryas Father Ade Somantri informed that about a month and a half ago, Arya could drink up to 20 bottles or boxes of sweetened beverages a night.

"When he had difficulty sleeping, he often asked for something sweet," Somantri said.

Arya, who was born normal with 3.8kg, began to gain weight drastically when he was four or five years of age, the father revealed, adding that he was considered overweight by the time he reached the age of eight.

"He had once gained 192kg. Since a year and a half now, Arya has been having difficulty falling asleep," Somantri recalled.

Arya often finds it hard to breathe when he walks due to obesity.

He was also known as a bright kid and often ranked first or second in his class. His weight problem now prevents the fourth-grader from going to school.

"He cant go to school now. The teachers keep encouraging Arya to continue his education," Somantri mentioned.(*)
