All of those roles are emblematic of my dedication to the community."
Kendari (ANTARA News) - Hugua is now back to his old passion, becoming an NGO activist, after completing his second term as district head of Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi Province, on June 28 this year.

"Once I am no longer the district head, I would immediately focus on the NGO that helped me and my colleagues progress," Hugua told the press here recently.

Born in Usuku Tomia village, Wakatobi Islands, on December 31, 1961, he experience encompasses manning an NGO, doing business, being a consultant for foreign projects in Indonesia, and in bureaucracy.

"All of those roles are emblematic of my dedication to the community," he noted.

Long before he became Wakatobi district head, Hugua had formed the non-government organization (NGO) called Sintesa, engaged in social and humanitarian projects such as providing clean water, training people in agricultural practices, and arranging micro credits for rural people.

"For me, NGO Sintesa is my soul that has led me to help the community, particularly those who do not have access to clean water supply and agriculture," the politician of the Indonesian Democratic Party for Struggle (PDIP), emphasized.

Established by Hugua and his two colleagues, Sintesa is currently handling clean water facility development projects in seven districts in South Sulawesi, and is developing micro economic businesses in freshwater aquaculture.

He does not rule out the possibility of nominating himself as Southeast Sulawesi Governor for the 2018-2023 period.

During his ten-year tenure, he has been successful in developing Waktobi and making his dream of "Realizing Wakatobi as an Underwater Paradise in the World Coral Triangle Center," come true.

He managed to boost economic growth in the region and improve the income of the local community, thanks particularly to the maritime tourism industry.

Hugua is a villager from Wakatobi, which was once isolated and hardly known in the past, but he has been thinking big to promote his region internationally.

He had organized many international events such as Sail Wakatobi, hosted a Roundtable Mayor Meeting of the Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI) countries, an Asia-Pacific Conference of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), the first Asia-Pacific conference on Biosphere Reserves, and a General Assembly of Local Government Network of CTI Countries (LGN-CTI CFF).
