In a press release on Saturday, Bambang said that of the number, some 257,874 were transported from the Gambir Railway Station 504,180 from the Pasar Senen Station and 28.068 from other stations in the capital city.
President Director of Railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), Edi Sukmoro, said previously predicted that this year, about 5.3 million travelers will use trains as their mode of transportation to go to their home towns.
"Last year, the number of train passengers during the Lebaran travel period had reached 5.1 million. If this year the number of passengers using trains reaches 5.3 million, it would mean a 5.5 percent increase," he said in Cirebon, West Java.
In the meantime, Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan has claimed that transportation services for homeward-bound travelers and revelers during the Ied Fitr holiday this year were far better than during previous years.
The claim was based on transportation services in various parts of the country, he said after monitoring the arrival of Idul Fitri revelers at Kualanamu Airport and Medan Railway Station on Saturday.
In providing transportation services for homeward bound travelers and revelers, the ministry emphasized passengers safety and services, he added.
"Almost all of them (transportation services) showed progress, compared to the previous years," he noted.(*)
