The Indonesian delegation members are the Indonesian Ambassador to Austria and the permanent representative to the UN, PBB Rachmat Budiman, and the Attache for Science and Permanent Mission of Indonesia to the United Nations in Vienna, Johanna Maria Christina Johari.
These eighteen senior diplomats from various countries, including Indonesia, also visited the biggest uranium enrichment company in the world, Ural Electrochemical Integrated Plant (UEIP).
Besides Indonesia, the other senior diplomats in the delegation are from Argentina, Belgium, China, Dominican Republic, and Germany, in addition to Japan, Pakistan, Qatar and Russia. Senior diplomats from Singapore, Slovakia, South Korea, and the Netherlands are also part of it.
The Russian permanent representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Vladimir Voronkov, said the visit of foreign diplomats to the Russian nuclear industry is a signal that countries in the world are interested in Russian nuclear technology.
In UEIP, the delegation members watched the uranium enrichment process that is one of important parts in nuclear energy production cycle of Rosatom, a Russian state company engaged in nuclear power.
The diplomats then went to the Beloyarsk nuclear power plant to see the works of fast breeder reactor.
The delegation members visited an innovative unit of the power plant which uses the strongest cold sodium breeder reactor in the world. In addition, the delegation also visited the third unit of Beloyarsk nuclear power plant that has been operating for over 30 years.
"I have to say that Russia, along with other countries, has good records in terms of nuclear technology safety. As a representative of the European Union and representative of Euratom, I think Russia is very good at applying nuclear safety," the Permanent Representative of the EU to the IAEA, Hendrik Koets, said.
Meanwhile, the IAEAs Deputy Director General, Juan Carlos Lentijo said the management of the Russian nuclear power plant has a very high level of professionalism.
"They are very committed in developing such technology and have an excellent framework in terms of safety and security," he added.(*)
