Jakarta (ANTARA News) - In this era of global competition, and incredibly tight competition among countries, Indonesia has to venture of the comfort zone, according to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

In his state of the nation address before the annual session of the Peoples Consultative Assembly (MPR) on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of the Independence of Indonesia, here, Tuesday, Jokowi said good cooperativeness, teamwork, and cooperation have facilitated the efforts to carry out the mandate of the people.

However, the president noted that Indonesia is in an era of formidable global competition and competition among countries.

"Therefore, we have to venture out of our comfort zone and try to be creative, optimistic, and and shoulder to shoulder to make breakthroughs in accelerating national development and improving competitiveness as a nation," the president remarked.

Jokowi said that without the courage to get out of the comfort zone, Indonesia will continue to be intercepted by poverty, unemployment, and social inequality.

"We need a breakthrough, the pace of work, and the state institutions that are strong and selective to address the major issues of this nation," the president emphasized.

In addition, he said Indonesia requires firmness in upholding the state ideology, the state constitution, and the primacy of the nations values.

"Without it all, our greatness as a nation will become extinct, it will be rolled up by the tide of history. But we do not want that to happen," Jokowi noted.

The president also appreciated the progress of the MPR that continues to expand the assessment and the aspiration of society on the implementation of the values of Pancasila the state philosophy, the 1945 Constitution, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), and the Unity in Diversity.

"We also welcome the idea of the MPR to reviewing the long-term national development planning system," he said.(*)
