"We should also significantly improve regulations and streamline bureaucratic processes by applying information and telecommunication technology," the president noted in his state of the nation address on the 71st anniversary of Indonesian Independence delivered during a Joint Session of the House of Representatives and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) at the Parliament Building here, Tuesday.
Indonesia must become a nation that is progressive and stands at par with other countries in the world.
The head of state affirmed that the Working Cabinet has vowed to lay a strong foundation for the nations development in the first year of administration.
"To achieve all this, we must develop. Develop the spirit and body; from Sabang until Merauke, we must bring about development. From Miangas until Rote, we must develop," he emphasized.
The Joint Session was chaired by House Speaker Ade Komaruddin and was attended by Chairman of the Peoples Consultative Assembly Zulkifli Hasan and DPD Chairman Irman Gusman, among others.
Former president J Habibie, former president Megawati Sukarnoputri, former vice president Try Sutrisno, and former vice president Boediono were among those present at the meeting.(*)
