"More than 3,000 regional regulations have been annulled as these were not found conducive for trade and business," Joko Widodo remarked.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo, in his speech at the Parliament Building here on Tuesday, highlighted the progress made by the government in improving the ease of doing business and facilitating those wanting to invest in Indonesia.
He said these steps were part of the efforts to boost the country's development.
Widodo reminded that in order to facilitate business, the government had to annul a large number of city bylaws and regional regulations or Perda that were seen as hampering the economic growth of the regions. Also, bylaws found overlapping with other government regulations and unfriendly to investment were also scrapped.
"More than 3,000 regional regulations have been annulled as these were not found conducive for trade and business," Joko Widodo remarked at the joint session of the House of Representatives and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) here on Tuesday.
The government is committed to cut bureaucratic tape to provide faster service, ensure certainty of regulations, synchronize laws, enhance the ease of doing business and improve productivity.
"Therefore, confounding regulations should be simplified and complicated procedures should be done away with," the president stressed.
It was the need of the hour to scrap the 3,143 regulations to ensure that Indonesia is seen as a big and tolerant country and more competitive in the global market, Widodo emphasized.
The government had also implemented the 12th Economic Policy Package and claimed to have already reformed 96 percent of the regulation and rules of the stimulus package.
The package is expected to positively impact the business and investment sector of the country.(*)
