The gold medal was won by Indonesias mixed doubles players Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir, lifting the Indonesian position in the medal tally from rank 56 to 39.
Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir defeated Malaysias Chan Peng/Goh Liu Ying 21-14, 21-12 in the finals.
Earlier, Indonesia won two silver medals through its weightlifters.
Until Wednesday evening, Indonesia has won one gold and two silver medals in the Olympic Games now on-going in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Indonesias position increased sharply over the other ASEAN countries, namely Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Singapore but it is still below the position of Thailand which has grabbed two gold medals.(*)
