The contest, in which 42 journalists had participated, was held by the Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ministry.
"The journalism writing contest (LKJ) was held to appreciate the role of the press in providing inspirational work for the community that helps take the country towards energy sovereignty," chairman of the board of jury of the ESDMs LKJ 2016, Aat Surya Safaat, told the media here on Wednesday.
The ESDMs LKJ 2016 offered total prizes worth Rp 67,500,000.
Aat announced that Muhammad Amin from Riau Pos newspaper won the first prize with his piece, entitled "Kampung terang, limbah pun hilang" (Village brighter, waste disappears).
The second prize went to Palce Amalo from Media Indonesia daily for his piece of writing, entitled, "Sumba, pulau ikonik energi terbarukan" (Sumba, an iconic island of renewable energy).
The third prize went to Tri Joko Her Riadi from Pikiran Rakyat Bandung daily for his narrative article, entitled, "Memanen sampah di Kota Kembang" (Harvesting the garbage in Bandung alias the City of Flowers).
In addition, Truly Okto Purba from Tribun Medan daily bagged the fourth prize, Wahyu Kuncoro from Harian Bhirawa daily won the fifth prize and Uji Agung Santosa from Kontan tabloid picked up the sixth prize.
Apart from Aat Surya Safaat, the members of the board of jury of the ESDMs LKJ 2016 included Arif Zulkifli (Editor-in-chief of Tempo) and Dr Usman Yatim (senior journalist and also an academician of the University of Prof Dr Moestopo).(*)
