Jakarta (ANTARA News) - State-owned vaccine manufacturer and distributor Bio Farma is introducing and promoting Wonderful Geopark of Indonesia at the 7th International Conference of UNESCO on Global Geopark held in Torquay, English Riviera, about 3,5 hours from London on September 26-30, 2016.

Head of CSR, Community Development and EHS Division of Bio Farma, R. Herry, in a statement received by Antara here on Thursday said the vaccine company was invited to deliver presentation on the role of State Owned Enterprise in the development of Geopark areas.

"Bio Farma is supporting Ciletuh Palabuhanratu Geopark in West Java, started from national recognition on December 2015 and preparatory stage of Geopark documents for submission to UNESCO which is to be finalized at the end of 2017," he explained.

Herry added that the development of the geopark is Bio Farmas CSR program which gives priority to local contents.

Ciletuh Geopark has a complete package of natural wealth, consisting of bio-diversity, geo-diversity and cultural-diversity.

Bio Farma, which have penetrated global market, takes part in promoting Ciletuh Geopark to be recognized by UNESCO, Herry said.

Various important activities in the community development had been carried out by Bio Farma at Ciletuh Geopark since 2013 to 2015.

The activities were introducing Geopark concept to the locals, organizing capacity building for the locals, constructing clean water pipes, training on homestay and local tourism, developing and promoting eco-friendly batik to penetrate global market, conserving endemic vegetation, mangrove and coral reef and facilitating access to healthcare services and medicines.

The CSR program of community development covers 40 households, 2 homestays, and 21 micro enterprise and provides clean water. In tourism sector, 23 homestays have been developed and 18 tour guides have been trained.

A UNESCO expert of Geopark, Prof. Guy Martini, in his last visit to Ciletuh said Ciletuh is a very potential to be acknowledge as the third Global Geopark in Indonesia.

He has visited tens of geopark areas in the world, and Ciletuh Geopark is new and unique and can be expanded to the northern side and integrated with the coastal tourism resort of Palabuhanratu beach.

"Because of its uniqueness, Ciletuh can be acknowledged as UNESCO Global Geopark. It is not only a UNESCO Global Geopark, but also a pilot project for UNESCO Global Geopark for its uniqueness with the support from Bio Farma," Martini said.

The UNESCO conference will be participated in by some 800 delegates from more than 30 countries, including Korea, Germany, Japan, Ireland, England, Finland and Indonesia
