Sumedang (ANTARA News) - West Javas Eka Yulianto contributed a gold medal from the martial arts individual event to his provinces kitty in the National Sports Week (PON) XIX at the ITB Graha Laga Satria Sports Hall on Saturday.

West Java fielded three athletes in the finals but only Eka was able to bag the gold medal in the G class category of the martial arts branch. Eka emerged victorious after defeating East Kalimantans Wahyu Hidayat 5-0.

Of West Javas two other athletes, Sofani Rakhmalianti (womens F category) bowed out 0-5 to West Nusa Tenggaras Mariati and Eri Budiono (mens H category) was defeated by Anton Yuspermanao of West Sumatra 0-5.

"In the finals, it all boils down to a war of nerves. Finals are the most crucial test for any athlete. Those who have the champion mindset have the best chance to win," West Javas martial arts coach Ika Lesmana opined.

So far, West Java has collected four of the five gold medals it had set its eyes on.
