Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has said public enthusiasm over the tax amnesty program would provide the necessary momentum to improve the taxation system in Indonesia.

"This provides the momentum to improve our taxation (system). There is (widespread) public awareness (of the need) to pay taxes. Our goal is to develop trust based on this momentum," President Jokowi remarked while making an impromptu inspection of a Central Jakarta tax office, Wednesday morning.

In response to the taxation reform momentum, supporting laws on income tax and value added tax will be introduced for the improvement of the countrys taxation system.

The president was informed that the total amount of money declared during the tax amnesty program had reached Rp2,700 trillion.

"This is a huge figure compared to other countries. Insha Allah, today, it will cross Rp3,000 trillion. This movement should be recognized," he noted.

The president claimed he had received many requests to extend the program, and he promised to provide administrative facilities until December 2016.

"This is the first phase. There will be second and third phases. September 30 has not arrived yet," he pointed out.

He also acknowledged the investments and inflow of money into the country. "We encourage those who have money stashed outside the country to continue allowing it to flow into the country," he said.

During the inspection, the Head of State received an evaluation recommending the improvement of the taxation administration and service systems.(*)
