Sri Mulyani said, "Tax amnesty is a facility that transforms noncompliant citizens to more compliant ones."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has appealed to medical professionals to participate in the governments tax amnesty program.

Speaking at a national seminar organized by the Association of Indonesian Hospitals (PERSI) at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) here on Monday, Sri Mulyani said, "Tax amnesty is a facility that transforms noncompliant citizens to more compliant ones."

The government seeks a good relationship between the tax payers and the government based on hope and trust, she explained.

The government has issued a law on tax amnesty to provide legal certainty and stop the public from being concerned.

This program is very beneficial for medical professional, hospital owners and managers, she noted.

Under the tax amnesty program, tax evasion will be pardoned irrespective of administrative or criminal sanctions. The sanctions will also be erased when the tax evaders reveal their wealth and pay redemption.

The amount of redemption, however small it may be, does not matter to the government. But the most important initiative is to create awareness among tax evaders to pay taxes properly, she said.

"The redemption amount, however small or big, would not a problem for us. But, as Indonesian citizens, we must care for the nation and make our country better, among other things, by paying taxes," she stated.

Indonesias Tax Amnesty Program, the first phase of which came to an end on September 30, has turned out to be the most successful such initiatives in the world.

The success of Indonesias amnesty scheme surpassed even those of Italy and Chile, which had carried out similar programs earlier.

The second phase of the tax amnesty program, which began on October 1 and will last till December 31, 2016, offers a redemption tariff of three percent.

This is slightly higher than the two percent tariff offered during the first phase from July 18-September 30, but less than five percent that will be imposed during the third phase (January 1 to March 31, 2017).

At present, the Finance Ministry, particularly the Tax Directorate General, will identify professionals who can potentially participate in the current tax amnesty program.

Nine categories of professionals have so far been identified as potential participants in the tax amnesty plan, including doctors, tax consultants, lawyers, architects, accountants, notary public, appraisers, provincial and deputy governors, commissioners and directors of board of state-owned companies.(*)
