Since the last three weeks, security situation in Malaysia-Philippines waters was getting more serious ..."Nunukan (ANTARA News) - Indonesias Consul General to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, has called on its fishermen to avoid Sabah waters near the border with the Philippines until security situation in the region returned to normal.
Hadi Syarifuddin, Chief of Indonesian Protection Task Force at the Consulate General, said here on Tuesday that the security situation in the border area of Malaysia and Philippines waters in the past three weeks was alarming, with several cases of robbery and kidnapping allegedly committed by Filipino gunmen.
Most of fishermen who operated in the area were Indonesians, Hadi said.
"Since the last three weeks, security situation in Malaysia-Philippines waters was getting more serious, where robbery, shooting and kidnapping were taking place frequently," Hadi told ANTARA News.
He said such situation was also experienced by Malaysian and Filipino fishermen.
Indonesian Consulate General to Kota Kinabalu has called on Indonesian fishermen to avoid the waters until the Malaysian government could ensure their safety.
On Saturday, two Indonesian fishermen were kidnapped by gunmen while they were working with other Indonesians for a Malaysian.
The two fishermen were La Utu bin La Raali and La Hadi bin La Adi. Other fishermen and boat crew managed to escape and seek help from Malaysian authorities.
Earlier in October, an Indonesian fishermen La Dino bin La Marinha was shot by gunmen in Sabah waters. He suffered serious injury and lost his right hand.
