Chief spokesman of BNN Sr.Com. Slamet Pribadi said BNN appreciated the steps taken by Central Kalimantan governor in the national fight against drugs.
Earlier, Governor Sugianto Sabran promised a prize of Rp50 million for shooting dead and Rp25 million for shooting at the leg of drug dealers.
"I would give a prize of Rp50 million for shooting dead a drug dealers," he has been quoted as saying.
On Saturday Slamat Pribadi said law enforcement officers have to act firmly when perpetrators look dangerous.
He said drug trade has been rampant in the country that firm action is needed to break the networks of illicit trade.
"However, law enforcement officers have to abide by the regulation, follow the proper procedure and the law," he said.
He said he hoped other regional leaders would follow the lead to stamp out drug from this country.
He said Governor Sugianto had met with BNN chief Com.Gen. Budi Waseso (Buwas).
Sugianto said he had coordinated with BNN , provincial police chief and regional military commander before issuing the policy.
Late last month, BNN chief Buwas said the agency is ready to shoot to kill drug dealers as they have spoiled millions of Indonesian youths and threaten the future of the nation.
"We are not doing things haphazardly. It would be a well measured action . The targets are those of whom we already have solid data about lawlessness," the police general said.
He said it is useless to send drug convicts to the rehabilitation center.
"Rehabilitation center would not change them. They even would look for victims there," he said at a function in Surabaya.
He said his proposed action (shooting to kill drug dealers) is not against the law and human rights.
"The drug dealers are the ones who have violated human rights," he said.
He said the statement of President Joko Widodo earlier that the country had been in the status of drug emergency, was above the law, adding the president has even declared war against drugs.(*)
