BPP-KB spokesperson Irmayanti Pettalolo remarked here on Monday that violence against children was still common in the city. The children are used as victims and suspects, damaging their physical and even mental health in the next generation.
"Yes, based on the data we have, the violence against children in the city of Palu is still common. It can be seen from the number of cases from January to October 2016 with a variety of factors," Irmayanti Pettalolo said.
She outlined that among the 97 cases of violence handled by the police, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) and Palu City government, 69 cases involved children as victims and 28 cases involved children as suspects.
According to her, all the elements ranging from governments, observer organizations of children, the community and the Indonesian Ulema Council, including religious leaders, need to provide guidance to the public to stop the violence.
She mentioned that the government of Palu city should encourage the seven sub-districts in the city to form the Village of Eligible Children (KLA), as a form of protection and provision of the rights of children, in order to avoid other forms of violence.
"One of the efforts made by BPP-KB, in cooperation with other parties, is to encourage the formation of KLA, which will be a forum for the development of children," she said.(*)
