AF was caught red handed by the anti illegal levy team in East Java. The team confiscated Rp1.5 billion from him believed to be related to land sale case he was handling.
He was flown here on Thursday night for investigation by the attorney general office.
The case would be investigated with witnesses, head of the law information office of the attorney general office M Rum said here on Friday.
Rum said the Junior Attorney General for Special Criminal cases started investigation upon the arrival of the suspect on Thursday night.
The attorney general office took over investigation in coordination with the East Java high prosecution office, Attorney General HM Prasetyo said here on Thursday.
"We will continue investigations of the case related to sales of land professionally and proportionally, Prasetyo said.
He said the briber would also be summoned for investigation.
He denied suggestion that AF had been arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
Meanwhile, head of the East Java prosecution office Maruli Hutagalung refused to comment on the arrest of his subordinate.
The anti illegal levy team had closely watched AF when the land sale case was brought to the Surabaya district court. .
The team grabbed AF when receiving the bribe believed to be related to the case he was handling.
Maruli Hutagalung himself was implicated in a bribery case involving senior lawyer Otto Cornelis Kaligis, who is serving a jail term for bribing judges in North Sumatra.
KPK is investigating alleged bribery of Rp500 million from O.C. Kaligis received by Maruli when he was director of investigation at the attorney general office.
The bribe money was related to embezzlement of grant and social aid fund (Bansos) by the North Sumatra prosecution office.
"Please be patient and wait. It is still being investigated," KPK deputy chief Basaria Panjaitan was quoted as saying here last month.(*)
