Education and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy conferred the award on Rismaharini at the Education and Culture Ministry in Jakarta on Friday, the event coinciding with the 2016 National Teachers Day.
"This award does not necessarily make me and all the employees of the Surabaya city government to become satisfied with ourselves. Rather, we must continue to improve the quality of education in Surabaya," he said here on Saturday.
The Ki Hajar Award was bestowed upon Rismaharini for her meritorious service in promoting information and communication technology-based education.
Admittedly, the city government has made use of information and communication technology in various educational activities, right from the online enrollment of new students, she noted.
In addition, trial exams have been conducted online. Students can now access a question bank from home itself. Students of senior and high schools in Surabaya can take exams through a computer assisted test (CAT) system.
She went on to say she came to Jakarta not only to receive the award but also to participate in the Surabaya governments struggle to manage senior high schools and vocational schools in the city.(*)
