Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The North Jakarta court has scheduled the first trial for a religious blasphemy case implicating non-active Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, or Ahok as he is popularly known, for December 13.

"The trial will be held on December 13, Tuesday," a spokesman of the court, Hasoloan Sianturi, told ANTARA here, Tuesday.

He said the five-member panel of judges would be led by head of North Jakarta court Dwiarso Budi Santiarto.

It will be an open trial, Hasoloan remarked, but the court will have to limit the number of audience members according to the capacity of the room.

The court has worked with the police and prosecutors office to secure the trial, he added.

Earlier on Thursday, the Attorney General accepted Ahoks case dossier from the police departments criminal investigation unit (Bareskrim), witnessed by Ahok and his lawyer Sirra Prayuna at the Attorney Generals Office (AGO).

"We have submitted 826 pages of Basuki Tjahaja Purnamas case dossier, which contains the statements of 42 witnesses, including 11 experts and one suspect," a spokesman of the AGO, M Rum, stated.

The dossier was then submitted to the North Jakarta District Court.

Ahok was charged with violating Articles 156 and 156a of the Criminal Code on blasphemy, with a maximum jail sentence of five years. He was named a suspect by the National Police on November 16 for a controversial remark he made during a working visit to the Seribu Islands district on September 27.(*)
