Head of the Press, Media, and Information Bureau, Presidential Secretariat Bey Machmudin in a press release received here on Thursday said President Joko Widodo met with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Speaker of the Parliament of Iran Ali Larijani on Wednesday (Dec 14) during his state visit.
The leaders discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries in an intimate atmosphere.
According to Bey, Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi had noted that the meeting was productive.
"The meeting between the Indonesian president, Iranian president and Iranian speaker of Parliament went well," the minister remarked.
The minister revealed that the Iranian government had expressed appreciation for Indonesias active role in facilitating world peace, including in the Middle East.
"Indonesias efforts to always promote dialogue and peace have created smooth bilateral relations between Indonesia and Iran," the minister pointed out.
"During the meeting, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Speaker of the Parliament of Iran Ali Larijani repeatedly lauded Indonesias active role in resolving the worlds problems," she affirmed.
In 2015, the total trade volume between Indonesia and Iran reached US$273 million. Indonesian exports to Iran include palm oil, paper and paper products, textile raw materials, tires, rubber, chocolate powder, coffee beans, cartons and wood products.(*)
