Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo plans to watch the second leg of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Cup 2016 final in Bangkok, Thailand, on Saturday, from the country.

"The President will watch (the match) from Jakarta," Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung said here on Friday.

He said the president had also communicated with the commander of the defense forces (TNI) General Gatot Nurmantyo, and the general chairman of the All Indonesia Football Association (PSSI), who will leave for Thailand along with the minister of religious affairs to attend the match.

General Nurmantyo had asked for permission to attend the final.

"Well, we hope their presence will give more spirit to the national team," Pramono said.

He hoped that the team, which had entered the finals five times before but failed to lift the trophy, will taste victory this time around.

In the first leg of the final in Jakarta, Indonesia defeated Thailand 2-1.

Asked if the president would give a bonus if the team won, Pramono said, "Let the President tell about it himself."

"We wish we could win," he said but admitted that the situation in Thailand would be different as there would be more Thailand, rather than Indonesian, supporters inside the stadium.(*)
