The quakes epicenter was located at 9.73 degrees southern latitude and 115.62 degrees eastern longitude, some 111 km southeast of Kelungkung, Bali Province, or 132 km southwest of West Lombok, West Nusa Tengara (NTB) Province, and at a depth of 10 km, the National Meteorological, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said on its official said, here, Sunday.
The tremor did not have potential to trigger a tsunami, according to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).
The earthquake was felt by inhabitants of Denpasar, Klungkung, Bangli, Gianyar, Tabanan, Kuta and Nusa Penida on Bali Island, as well as residents of Mataram and Senggiggi on Lombok Island.
The tremor having an intensity at III and IV MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity), forced local people and tourists to rush out of buildings.
Meanwhile, an earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter Scale jolted Mentawai Islands, West Sumatra Province, on Saturday at 10:52 p.m. local time.
The quakes epicenter was located at 2.5 degrees southern latitude, and 99.51 degrees eastern longitude, some 125 km southeast of Mentawai, and at a depth of 21 km, the National Meteorological, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said on its official website.
The mild tremor was felt by inhabitants of Tua Pejat town, Mentawai.
