"The Indonesian Embassy to Malaysia has requested information from the Malaysian security authorities on the arrest of a woman with an Indonesian passport allegedly involved in the murder of a North Korean," Deputy Ambassador of the Indonesian Embassy to Malaysia Andreano Erwin said in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.
Based on personal data submitted by the Malaysian security authorities, the Indonesian Embassy has verified and revealed that the woman was an Indonesian, he stated.
Following the results of the verification, the embassy has requested the Malaysian government for consular access in order to provide legal assistance and to ensure that the suspects rights are fully met.
"Currently, the staff of the Indonesian Embassy to Malaysia is on his way to Selangor. The Indonesian embassy continues to coordinate with Malaysian security officers related to this case," he noted.
Several media reported that a second woman has been arrested for using an Indonesian passport bearing the name Siti Aishah.
Head of the Royal Malaysian Police, Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, said the woman with the Indonesian passport was arrested on Thursday at 02:00 local time.
"Based on details from the passport, she hailed from Serang city in Indonesia. She was identified by CCTV footage at the airport and was alone during the arrest," he added.
