Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has ordered intensified efforts to ensure public safety and accelerate response measures to widespread floods and landslides affecting Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo conveyed the directive in a statement issued on Tuesday.

"President Prabowo Subianto has firmly instructed us to focus on two key aspects: the safety of residents and swift, responsive measures in the field," he said after accompanying the president during visits to several flood-hit areas on Monday.

Hanggodo said the president called for fast, coordinated disaster handling and urged stronger cross-sector cooperation between central and regional governments, the military, and the police.

He added that Prabowo stressed the need for ministries, agencies, and local governments to work closely together to deliver the best services amid increasingly complex challenges.

The minister also asked his office to heighten vigilance and improve preparedness, drawing lessons from the ongoing emergencies on Sumatra Island.

"We are seeing several regions hit by floods and landslides, which have disrupted public activities and required rapid response from all parties," he said.

Hanggodo said his ministry had allocated Rp1 billion (over US$60,000) to procure and distribute staple goods, emergency supplies, and equipment through its local units.

He added that the ministry had reassigned heavy machinery from infrastructure projects to help restore road access in affected areas, ensuring smooth delivery of logistics and humanitarian aid.

Reopening access remains a top priority, he said, as it underpins subsequent recovery efforts, including reconstruction of damaged infrastructure.
