Penajam, E. Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - House of representatives member Ikhwan Datu Adam supports the plan of the North Penajam Paser administration, East Kalimantan, to take over the management of Chevron Indonesia Companys oil and gas fields in Terminal Lawe-Lawe, Penajam.

"We support the steps and ideas of the administration to take over the management of Chevrons oil and gas fields in Lawe-Lawe," Adam stated here, Thursday.

The contracts of the US company will end in 2018.

According to Adam, the administration of North Penajam Paser deserves to manage the oil and gas fields in Terminal Lawe-Lawe.

"North Penajam Paser has five wells that were managed by VICO," Adam said, adding that if the takeover of oil and gas fields in Lawe-Lawe is successful, then it will mark another important milestone in history.

The takeover is an attempt to reduce Indonesias dependence on foreign parties for the management of oil and gas wells.

The district administration has proposed consortium and cost and fees as two options for the national oil and company PT Pertamina related to the management of oil and gas fields in Terminal Lawe-Lawe.

In the scheme of cost and fee, the local administration will manage the oil and gas wells, while Pertamina will take 10 percent of the project. Meanwhile, within the consortium scheme, the district will own the company in the ratio of 51:49 or 60:40.

The district administration will establish a regional company and district regulations as a form of legal protection to manage the company.

Additionally, the district administration is formulating a regulation on the establishment of a regional company to manage the Pandawa Block in East Kalimantan, located in the waters of Waru District.(*)
