"I have contacted (the Indonesian Embassy to Malaysia) to obtain the results of Aisyahs fingerprint analysis," the minister remarked while accompanying President Joko Widodo during a state visit to Sydney, Australia, on Saturday.
The minister said the results of Aisyahs fingerprint analysis will be sent to Jakarta to be matched with Indonesias population database.
Marsudi said her side has always maintained contact with the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Malaysia over the handling of Aisyahs case.
"The point is that consular access is needed to check the citizenship status of Siti Aisyah. Based on data from the passport carried by Aisyah, she is an Indonesian female citizen. However, we must ensure whether the passport indeed belonged to Aisyah. Hence, we have to conduct a fingerprint examination," she noted.
After obtaining consular access to meet Aisyah, Marsudi has urged the officials of the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia to visit her and conduct a fingerprint examination.
"We have also readied a lawyer to assist Aisyah," she revealed.
Related to the possibility that Aisyah was also exposed to the VX virus, Marsudi said that Aisyah needs to undergo medical tests.
"Aisyah must undergo medical tests to confirm whether she was exposed to the VX virus. We will monitor the efforts of the Malaysian authorities in handling this problem," she remarked.
Meanwhile, Director of Indonesian Citizen Protection of the Foreign Affairs Ministry Muhammad Iqbal stated in Jakarta on Friday (Feb 24) that Indonesia had got consular access from the Malaysian government to meet Aisyah on Saturday (Feb 25) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. local time.
The Indonesian government will use the consular access to conduct a physical verification of Aisyahs citizenship status to ensure that she is in good health and to obtain preliminary information from her in a bid to offer legal assistance.(*)
