"Whoever wins the second ballot should be a leader to all people of Jakarta," the vice president stated after casting his vote at polling station number 03 in South Jakarta.
Kalla emphasized that the elected governor has to work hard to solve several problems, including flooding and severe traffic jams in the countrys capital city.
Moreover, the elected governor has to improve the provinces economy, including by creating more job opportunities for the people in various fields, Kalla noted.
The vice president, accompanied by his wife Mufidah Kalla and family, had cast their votes earlier in the day at the polling station number 03 on Brawijaya Street in South Jakarta.
The citys incumbent governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) and deputy Djarot Syaiful Hidayat (Djarot) are competing against former education minister Anies Baswedan (Anies) who pairs with businessman Sandiaga Uno (Sandi) during the second round of the gubernatorial election.
The two pairs of Ahok-Djarot and Anies-Sandi had earlier cleared the first ballot by securing 42.99 percent and 39.95 percent of the votes respectively.
During todays runoff, around 7,218,254 people were registered to exercise their right to vote at 13,034 polling stations.
The official result has yet to be announced, but several media outlets and pollsters, which conducted a quick count recently, have revealed that the Anies-Sandi pair received around 56 percent votes, followed by Ahok-Djarot, with 44 percent.(*)
