Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Jakarta governor candidate Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok, who is also the incumbent Jakarta governor, and his running mate Djarot Saiful Hidayat congratulated the winning pair Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno in the Jakarta gubernatorial election based on quick count results.

Ahok and Djarot expressed congratulations at a press conference here on Wednesday after the quick count results of several pollsters in the second round of the Jakarta gubernatorial election were announced.

"We have received the quick count results. The outcome shows that Anies-Sandi pair has gained victory. Congratulation to Pak (Mr) Anies and Pak Sandi," Djarot stated at the Pullman hotel.

Nevertheless, Djarot noted that he will wait for the official count results organized by the Jakarta Provincial General Elections Commission (KPU DKI Jakarta).

"Indeed, we should wait for the official real count by the KPU DKI Jakarta," Djarot emphasized.

In line with Djarot, Ahok also congratulated the Anies-Sandi pair who was leading in the election.

"Once again, congratulation to Pak (Mr) Anies and Sandi. We all are equal. Jakarta city is our common home," Ahok disclosed.

The Jakarta gubernatorial runoff election was held after no candidate pair won the majority in the first round of the Jakarta regional head election last Feb 15, which was contested by three candidate pairs.

The three candidate pairs who took part in the Feb 15 election were pair number 1 Agus Harimurti-Sylviana Murni, number 2 Basuki Tjahaja Purnama-Djarot Saiful Hidayat, and pair number 3 Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno.

In the first round election, Agus who is the son of former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, collected the least votes.

Anies and Sandi pair is expected to lead Indonesian capital city of Jakarta for the next five-year period from 2017 to 2022.

A total of 7.2 million eligible voters in Jakarta cast their votes in the Jakarta runoff election on Wednesday.
