Trade barriers should be eliminated: US vice president

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The trade barriers between Indonesia and the United States should be abolished, US Vice President Michael Richard Pence said.

The statement was delivered during a joint press statement at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday.

"The arena of competition should be equal. The trade barriers should be eliminated in an attempt to ensure full participation by US and Indonesian exporters in the market of Indonesia and US, respectively," Pence remarked.

US President Trump hopes to work with Indonesia to make some progress in the economic field, Pence stated.

Pence also expressed his gratitude for the openness of the Indonesian government to the US regarding trade.

"Trump has send a message about the good relations between the US and Indonesia in the economic field," Pence revealed.

The United States is ready to develop trade freely and fairly as part of the efforts to create jobs and to increase economic growth for both countries he noted.

"The two countries should seek win-win relations," he pointed out.(*)
