Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi and PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II President Director Elvyn G Masassya welcomed the arrival of the largest container ship CMA CGM Otello which berthed at Jakarta International Container Terminal here, Sunday.

PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II/Indonesian Port Corporation II (IPC) has previously welcomed the 8,238 TEUs capacity container ship for the first time on April 9, 2017.

The ship belongs to French shipping lines Compagnie Maritime dAffretement-Compagnie Generali Maritime (CMA-CGM).

The arrival of the ship is in conjunction with the cooperation to serve a new route with the Java South East Asia Express Services (JAX Service).

It will serve the route from Tanjung Priok (Jakarta) to West Coast, Los Agneles and Oakland of the United States with a routine Sunday berth system.

In the past three week operation, the loading and unloading activities continue to increase with an average volume of 2,100 TEUs.

The increase in the services showed a positive response from port service users who felt logistics cost efficiency in shipping goods from Tanjung Priok Port to West Coast.

"We thank the governments support for the efforts we made to increase the logistics transportation and maritime connectivity in Indonesia," Elvyn said in a press statement made available to ANTARA on Sunday.

Elvyn hoped that the presence of the largest container ship in Indonesia would trigger other large ships to call at Tanjung Priok Port. Thus, it would be in line with the governments mission to make the port --which is located in the northern part of Jakarta-- one of the transshipment points in Southeast Asia.

IPC has the commitment to continuously renew and increase port services by changing services into IT-based one and improving port infrastructures.

The aim of giving the best services to users is to enable it to compete with other international ports.

The same commitment was also conveyed by Senior Vice President CMA CGM Asia, Jean-Yves Duval, who is determined to continue supporting Indonesias goal of expanding holistic maritime networks.

"In the future, we will open new pages with IPC and with other stakeholders in Indonesian maritime industry," Duval said.(*)
