Bogor, W Java (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo wants the anti-terror bill to soon pass its discussion phase, as a follow up measure to face the threat of terrorism.

The president made the statement during a Plenary Cabinet Meeting which he led to discuss the preparations around the upcoming Eid holiday in the Bogor Presidential Palace on Monday.

"We need to be able to provide a sense of security among the community during the Eid holiday. We also need to be cautious of threats, especially those related to terrorism," he stated.

Hence, Widodo sought the completion of the anti-terror bill in the near future.

"I would like the anti-terror bill to immediately be pursued to the house and to the Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs, and I would like the discussion around the bill to be completed as soon as possible," the president stated.

He believed that Indonesia was in urgent need of the bill as it would ease security personnel in taking actions in the field.

"The National Military Force (TNI) must be given the authority to participate in the process of finalizing the bill, because I believe the Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs have been prepared," he remarked.

He had also asked the National Agency for Combating Terrorism to continue its effort to socialize programs that are aimed to eradicate terrorism values in schools, worship places, and jails.

"The social media will also greatly reduce terroristic acts because almost all countries are facing the same challenge," he remarked.
