Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Arcandra Tahar here on Tuesday said four oil and gas projects have been included in the National Strategic Projects list because they have large capacity of gas, and therefore, their production will meet future energy needs.

The four projects are Tangguh Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Train 3 owned by British Petroleum (BP) Berau Ltd, Masela block operated by Inpex Corporation, Indonesia Deepwater Development (IDD) of Chevron, and Jambaran-Tiung Biru unit operated by PT. Pertamina EP Cepu.

"The Tiung Biru, IDD, Tangguh, and Masela, contain gas for our energy future needs. It looks like a lot of gas rather than oil, so we have to be efficient in exploiting them with right technology," Arcandra said.

By being in the list of national projects, the four projects are expected to increase the countrys foreign exchange. The four projects are also expected to be able to meet the needs of domestic gas without importing.

"Later on, those projects can meet the needs for 10-20 years," he said.

Because the projects have been listed as national strategic projects, the government will speed up their development, he added.

The construction of those four projects will be regulated under the Presidential Regulation so that they can be facilitated, such as in terms of land acquisition and ease of licensing.

Previously, there were three national oil and gas projects that were also included in the national strategic projects list namely Bontang Refinery (East Kalimantan), Tuban Refinery (East Java) and Refinery Development Masterplan Program (RDMP) of Cilacap (Central Java).(*)
