Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Bank Indonesia (BI) has bestowed 29 awards on corporations and one on an economist in recognition of their services to help maintain domestic economic stability and growth and inspire the national economic policy and good governance.

"We hope these awards would motivate us to make new innovations while at the same time maintaining performance by applying good governance," BI Governor Agus Martowardojo noted in his address at the conferment ceremony here on Tuesday.

The economist who received the medal is Rahmat Saleh, who was the BI governor for the 1973-1983 term and the trade minister from 1983 to 1988.

Saleh was present at the ceremony to receive the lifetime achievement award from the BI Board of Governors.

The corporations are divided into banking and non-banking corporations.

PT. Bank Mandiri Persero Tbk received the award for supporting monetary control of the rupiah and foreign currencies, while PT. Bank Syariah Mandiri secured the award for supporting sharia-compliant monetary control.

PT. Bank Central Asia TBK received the award in recognition of its in-depth support for the money market.

Krama Yudha Tiga Berlian Motorsports bagged the award in the corporation category for successfully managing market risks.

BI also presented awards to print media outlet Bisnis Indonesia and online media www.bisnis.com for actively publishing the central banks policies.

State-owned Bank Negara Indonesia received an award for being the best clearing participant of the BI-RTGS and BI-SSS systems, while the branch of state-owned Bank Rakyat Indonesia in Waingapu and the branch of Bank Kalimantan Barat in Singkawang received awards for supporting the circulation of rupiah banknotes in remote and outlying areas.

BI also bestowed an award on a financial technology company for supporting the national non-cash campaign.

Citibank and BCA were the banks that received awards for their best reporting compliance. The corporations that received awards for contributing the highest foreign exchange earnings are PT. Kaltim Prima Coal, PT. Smelting, and PT. Wilmar Nabati Indonesia.(*)
