"On July 26, our Foreign Minister (Retno Marsudi) had contacted Chinese Foreign Minister. In relation to Chinas position as the president of UNSC, our minister has encouraged China to take up the role of pushing for international pressure on Israel to restore Al-Aqsa status as before," Foreign Ministrys spokesman Arrmanatha Nasir said here on Friday.
According to Nasir, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi welcomed the request of Indonesia and added that the Chinese government had the same thoughts as Indonesia regarding this crisis.
Commenting that the Chinese government has specifically discussed this issue, Yi stated that his government also wanted Palestinians to be fairly treated while encouraging the implementation of a Two-State Solution.
"As the president of UNSC, China needs to encourage support from its other members as well," Nasir noted.
The Indonesian government not only encourages the UNSC but also urges Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states to unite to help the Palestinians and maintain the status quo of Al-Aqsa complex.
Marsudi will attend a foreign ministerial-level OIC emergency meeting in Istanbul, Turkey, on Aug 1 to discuss the recent situation at the mosque.
The meeting is held based on the request by Indonesian government to the OIC Secretary General and the governments of several OIC countries.
"This meeting has been planned for some time now, and Indonesia will emphasize our position and vision and take the necessary steps to make the situation in Al-Aqsa complex better," Nasir remarked.
At the meeting, Indonesia will call for solidarity and unity of OIC member states to protect Al-Aqsas status quo and continue to encourage international support for Palestinian independence efforts.(*)
