The Indonesian government condemns the armed groups attacks on the Rakhine State police station and refugee shelter in Maungtaw on August 25, 2017, which have displaced hundreds of people and spurred new violence, and deplores the deaths and injuries in Rakhine State.
Indonesia expects the Myanmar government to take immediate steps to restore security and provide inclusive protection.
Indonesia also encourages all sides to immediately stop acts of violence, contribute to the restoration of security, and respect human rights of all people in Rakhine State, including the Muslim community.
According to the Indonesian government, the situation in Rakhine State is very complicated. To this end, cooperation among all stakeholders is necessary for creating peace, security, stability, and inclusive development in the state.
A peaceful and secure situation in Myanmar, including in Rakhine State, is important to support the stability and sustainable development in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations region.
To this end, Indonesia will continue to work with Myanmar on the reconciliation process and inclusive development in Rakhine State, including the implementation of Kofi Annans recommendations.(*)
