"Indonesia hopes Malaysia could allocate 20 percent of its rice import quota, or around 150 thousand tons for it," Jokowi said in a joint press statement with Malaysian Prime Minister Mohamad Najib Razak after a meeting at the Hotel Hilton here on Wednesday.
Jokowi stated that the cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia had grown stronger, supported by increasing trade of more than 21 percent in the first semester this year.
Indonesia has started exporting rice to Malaysia from October this year, totaling 25 thousand tons.
"The amount is expected to continue to increase every year," Jokowi remarked.
Najib noted that Jokowi visit to Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, marked the 12th annual consultation meeting between the two countries, "as well as the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Indonesia."
The meeting between the two leaders went smoothly, highlighting the good bilateral relations between the two countries.
"A lot of progress has been made in the fields of politics, economy, social, security, and border cooperation. The two governments wished to continue increasing the relations, in order to create more opportunities and realize more potentials," Najib revealed.
