Kuching, Malaysia (ANTARA News) - The governments of Indonesia and Malaysia have agreed to develop cooperation on high-level Islamic education sector, after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Kuching City, Sarawak of Malaysia.

Antara reported here on Wednesday that the MoU was signed by Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi and Malaysian High Education Minister Idris Jusuh.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by President Joko Widodo and Prime Minister Dato Sri Mohamad Najib Tun Abdul Razak.

The aim of the MoU is to develop potential cooperation in education, in order to implement Islamic values between the two countries.

During his visit to Malaysia, Widodo also met 5 thousand Indonesian citizens in Perpaduan Stadium of Kuching, on the event of Reunion between Indonesian People and Jokowi.

Several officers, including Indonesian Ambassador for Malaysia, Rusdi Kirana, and Indonesian Consul General in Kuching, Jahar Gultom, accompanied the president on his trip.

Widodo was in Malaysia to attend the 12th Annual Consultation Meeting of Indonesia-Malaysia.

Both government leaders discussed priority bilateral issues, including strengthening economic relations, protection of Indonesian citizens and workers, border issues, and defense as well as security issues.
