Palembang, South Sumatra (ANTARA News) - South Sumatra Governor Alex Noordin has made assurance that the supporting infrastructure projects for the Asian Games in Palembang will be completed in December.

"The Asian Games` supporting infrastructure projects are under construction and will be completed in December, except for three other projects," Governor Noordin remarked here on Tuesday.

He said the three other projects that will not be completed in December are a convention hall in Jakabering, tennis match arena having an automatic roof, and Light Rail Transport that will be completed in May 2018.

"Six months ahead of the Asian Games, Palembang will be the most beautiful city in Indonesia, as it will transform Jakabaring as Asia`s biggest sporting area," Noordin noted.

Governor Noordin said Palembang has prepared six 10-storey buildings in the Jakabaring area to offer accommodation to athletes participating in the Asian Games in addition to the eight existing buildings.

"The facility will be able to accommodate six thousand athletes and is supported by a 24-hour dining hall during the Asian Games," the governor revealed.

Media Committee member of the Asian Olympic Council Tony Mariadass expects preparations for the Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang would run smoothly following incomplete infrastructure projects just nine months before the event.

"The Asian Games Media Forum is an opportunity for media in Asia to witness the ongoing preparations in Jakarta and Palembang to hold this great sporting event," Mariadass remarked.

The 2018 Asian Games Media Forum being organized by the 2018 Asian Games Organizing Committee aims to shed light on the preparations for a multi-pronged sporting event to be held in Jakarta and Palembang in August 2018.
