Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta Metro Police Officers have heightened their security patrols around the vicinity of the Embassy of the United States in Jakarta, following US President Donald Trump`s controversial decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

"We are increasing security through patrol services," Chief of Jakarta Metro Police Public Relations Division High Commissioner, Argo Yuwono, stated in Jakarta on Thursday.

He noted that Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters has not received notice for any plans for rallies at the US Embassy on Friday from any member of the public.

Although they have not yet received any notifications, the Jakarta Police officers remain on guard and are on standby by patrolling around the US Embassy in the Central Jakarta area.

In addition to the Officers for Vital Objects, Yuwono noted that the Jakarta Metro Police have added more personnel for patrol activities at the US Embassy.

Previously, Trump took the sudden decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel on Wednesday (Dec 6).

The decision sparked criticism from Palestinians and a number of countries, some of which even considered ignoring the warnings of riots in the Middle East.

The Indonesian government has also strongly condemned the US government`s decision, as it is believed that it will affect the stability of world.

"Indonesia strongly condemns the unilateral recognition of the United States," said President Joko Widodo.

Indonesia has called on the US to reconsider the decision.

"The decision has violated various resolutions of the United Nations, in which the United States is a member of, and this could destabilize the security of the world," Widodo explained.
