The statement was conveyed by Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo during his visit to Cathedral church along with Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto and National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian in Jakarta, Sunday.
His visit represents President Joko Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
"President Joko Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla wished Merry Christmas to all Christians across Indonesia," he remarked.
The minister pointed out that the TNI and Police had ensured security for the Christmas and the New Year celebrations.
"The police and the military have prepared security to ensure that every person has the right to worship according to their respective religions and beliefs," he stated.
On the occasion, Police Chief General Tito Karnavian said that security pacification for the Christmas 2017 and the New Year 2018 celebrations would be conducted until January 2, 2018.
"We also deploy personnel at some point of congestion on Java Island`s northern coastal road, Pantura, West Java. We continue to evaluate until January 2," he pointed out.
Indonesia has always embraced religious tolerance, he affirmed.
"Indonesia is a country full of diversity, home to numerous different ethnic groups, languages and religions. However, Indonesia is a tolerant country," he said.
Meanwhile, TNI Commander Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto visited three churches to observe preparations for the Christmas celebration.
"We ensure the Christmas celebration can run safely. We expect the Christmas celebration can run peacefully across Indonesia with no untoward security incidents," he pointed out.
