Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The country`s currency rupiah gained in inter-bank transaction on Thursday closing at the level of 13,437 from 13,475 per US dollar.

Chief researcher of Monex Investindo Futures Ariston Tjendra said the rupiah gained over the dollar which is under pressure from a number of world currencies amid the oil price hike.

"The oil price hike at more than US$60 per barrel contributed to rising of commodity based currencies including rupiah," Ariston said.

The price of WTI Crude rose 0.39 percent to US$61.87 per barrel, and Brent Crude rose 0.09 percent to US$67.90 dollar per barrel on Thursday.

Ariston said data that showed an increase about China`s economy the world`s second largest, helped strengthen rupiah.

"Improved Chinese economy gave rise to hope of improved in the regional economy including Indonesia," he said.
