"We managed to increase the electrification ratio to 94.83 percent until the end of 2017, or 2 percent higher than the target," he said, during the Journal of Contemporary Accounting and Economics (JCAE) 2018; Doctoral Consortium and Annual Symposium held, here on Thursday.
The three-day JCAE Symposium 2018, jointly organized by Airlangga University in Surabaya, Deakin University in Australia, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and University of Technology Sydney (UTS) Australia, will last until Jan 12.
Jonan expressed optimism that the electrification ratio will further increase to 97.5 percent this year, as compared to the target of 95.15 percent.
"Accordingly, the electrification ratio may reach 99.9 percent in 2019, or higher than the target of 97.5 percent," he stated.
The government is preparing a number of programs to reach the electrification ratio of 99.9 percent, he noted.
The programs include the construction of new and renewable energy-based power plants, he added.
"In several parts of Indonesia, the distance from one village to another is long. Therefore, we will build off-grid power plants using new and renewable energy," he remarked.
The other program will involve providing villages with solar energy-saving lamps (LTSHEs) using state budget funds. "Last year, we installed LTSHEs in one thousand villages. We have targeted to install LTSHEs in 1,500 villages this year," he pointed out.
