Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vaccine producer PT Bio Farma said it has increased its vaccine production by 4.5 million vials to meet a surge in demand for "Outbreak Response Immunization" (ORI) with the outbreak of diphtheria in various areas in the country.

Chief Executive of PT Bio Farma Juliman said at a discussion on on diphtheria here on Friday said the company`s production of vaccines rose to 19.5 million vials from normally 15 million.

"We have to work extra time from five days to seven days a week to meet the vaccine requirement," Juliman said.

The production capacity of Bio Farma is 15 million vials a year with 5 working days a week. The production capacity could be expanded to 19.5 million vials with seven working days a week.

The production capacity of 15 million vials includes for tetanus and hepatitis B vaccines, but production of tetanus and hepatitis B vaccines is reduced to increase diphtheria vaccine production.

Juliman said his company has to put off exports to meet the increase in domestic requirement.
