"This is not planned to meet the domestic needs but to primarily meet the demands of the international community and to strengthen Indonesia`s leadership in the global world, especially among the international Islamic society," the president stated, while opening the closed meeting on the establishment of the University in the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday.
The president stated that a number of leaders of countries with Muslim population majority, including Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, as well as Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Ameen Madani, during the OIC Extraordinary Summit in Jakarta in 2016, had made it clear to him that the younger generation in the Middle East could learn about Islam in the higher educational institutions in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian youth who wish to study in the Middle East are encouraged to learn about economy, including about trade and oil, he reiterated.
"They believe that Islam that is practiced in the daily life of Indonesians is indeed the correct way," he stated.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution; Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto; Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Puan Maharani; Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi; and Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani were seen attending the closed meeting that began at 2 p.m.
Also seen attending the meeting were Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education Muhammad Nasir; Minister of Communication and Informatics Rudiantara; Minister of Land and Spatial Planning Sofyan Djalil; Minister of State Secretariat Pratikno; Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung; Head of the Presidential Staff Moeldoko; Governor of West Java Ahmad Heryawan; and Head of the National Government Internal Auditor Ardan Adiperdana.
