In Makassar, South Sulawesi, Friday, the Vice President stated that in Indonesia only 20,000 workers are accepted, while only 10,000 job seekers with Bachelor degrees are accepted at the same time.
"In a year, only 10,000 Bachelor degree holders are accepted into the workplace, while there are almost a million graduates every year, so only one percent get into the labour field," he said during his opening address in the inauguration of Fajar University new building.
In regard to this condition, students then need to start thinking bravely into becoming a professional, including to pursue entrepreneurship.
Kalla then gave out two examples of world businessman that had successfully made it in the field without being to reliant on degree certificates.
They were Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg, both of which are figures of entrepreneurship, much like Kalla himself. He even admitted to be an admirer of Zuckerberg who had successfully set up Facebook after being dropped out from his university.
Meanwhile, Rector of Fajar University Makassar Sadly Abd Jabar stressed that the importance of quality as the competition for education in the future would only get tougher.
Quality, he continued, is not only seen from the output or how many graduates can a university put out, but there need to be serious attention towards the quality of the graduates themselves including in the process of them getting their degrees so they can ease into the work world smoothly.
