Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has proposed Perry Warjiyo as the sole candidate of Bank Indonesia (BI/the central bank) governor for 2018-2023 period, a legislator said.

"As an insider, Warjiyo will surely continue BI`s policies that are good for managing the monetary sector," said a member of Commission XI in charge of Finance and Banking, Muhammad Nur Purnamasidi when contacted by ANTARA National News Agency in Jakarta on Saturday.

However, Purnamasidi still doubts Warjiyo`s ability to make a breakthrough for strengthening the Central Bank`s policy in the future.

"I`m not too sure, whether Warjiyo can make more dynamic policies for the future," said Purnamasidi, a member of the Golkar Party Faction. The Golkar Party is the majority in the parliament and is also supporter of the government of Jokowi.

The Presidential Palace has confirmed that President Joko Widodo had sent the name of the candidate for Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) for the period 2018-2023 to the House of Representatives (DPR) on Friday

"The House received it this afternoon at 2 p.m," said Presidential spokesman Johan Budi when contacted by ANTARA on Friday.

But Budi did not explain the name of the candidate proposed by Jokowi to follow the fit-and-proper test in the House.

Vice Presidential Expert Team Chairman Sofjan Wanandi confirmed that four names had earlier been presented to the President to be selected as candidates for Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI). The names are then discussed with the President and Vice President.

The four names were Former Finance Minister Chatib Basri, Head of National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Bambang Brodjonegoro, BI Deputy Governor Perry Warjiyo, and incumbent BI Governor Agus Martowardojo.
