Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde highlighted the importance of preparations in the face of a digital revolution that slowly begins to change the regional and global economic structures.

"We have to start controlling the digital revolution in the best possible ways by improving the quality of digital infrastructure and creating an appropriate education system for the future," she said during a speech at High Level International Conference in Jakarta on Tuesday.

In a conference entitled New Growth Models in a Changing Global Landscape, she stated the management of transition under current changes is very important as it relates to job creation.

The models of future economic growth will depend on various innovations in the technology sector such as artificial intelligence, the use of robot power, and the utilization of biotechnology and financial technology.

"We must ensure that this new economy not only promotes productivity and growth, but also serves as a useful foundation for young and old, rich and poor, urban and rural people," she said.

She stated a good example in the use of information technology for the creation of manpower is a start-up company like Go-Jek that provides not only transportation services but also payment method and other services.

On the occasion, she also underscored the importance of managing uncertainty by improving the quality of fiscal and monetary policy frameworks to anticipate shocks that could occur at any time.

In addition, Indonesia and ASEAN countries need to build a more inclusive economy to address the gap by creating new economic growth models.

The new economic growth models should aim to encourage domestic demand, increase intergovernmental trade and provide opportunities for economic diversification.
