"This exercise is to train the soldier`s ability to carry out duties, whether day or night," the Air Squadron 12 Commander, Lt. Col. Adhi Safarul Akbar, said here on Wednesday.
He added that the exercise would be held two nights from March 13 to 15, 2018.
According to him, the exercise is aimed at training pilots and ground crew members to prepare and conduct flight operations and examining the readiness of main armament system.
Lt. Col Adhi said the night flying exercise is important considering that the Squadron 12 is the only Type-A air base in Sumatra.
"This is important because Roesmin Nurjadin Airbase is one of the operating bases that should be able to carry out any mission at any time in order to maintain the national sovereignty," he explained.
Meanwhile, Roesmin Nurjadin Air Force Commander First Marshal Age Wiraksono stressed the importance of prioritizing safety in the exercise.
"Check and recheck before and after the exercises, and do not forget to ask help from Allah Almighty, the God Almighty for the whole exercises can be carried out safely and smoothly," he said.
Roesmin Nurjadin is an air military base in western Indonesia`s region. The base is reinforced with two combat squadrons, namely, Air Squadron 12 and Air Squadron 16.
The Air Squadron 16 itself is reinforced by F16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets.
