Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government will heighten cooperation with its Singaporean counterpart in countermeasures to terrorism.

The effort to heighten the cooperation was discussed between Head of Indonesia`s National Agency for Combatting Terrorism Police Commissioner General Suhardi Alius and Deputy Minister of Home Affairs of Singapore Lai Chung Han, who is also Minister of Education, in the Agency`s Headquarters in Jakarta, Monday.

"The Minister paid a visit in the effort to heighten the cooperation in addressing terrorism threats, especially on issues regarding Singapore`s Home Affairs Ministry and Education Ministry," said Alius in a statement.

He revealed that Singapore sought to learn from Indonesia on the education materials about matters that could contribute to radicalism.

Singapore also expressed their appreciation for Indonesia`s deradicalization program, carried out by the Agency, and wanted to take some notes, despite the fact that Singapore houses less citizens compared to Indonesia, and has lower rate of terrorism acts.

Meanwhile, Minister Lai Chung Han stated that his visit to meet the Agency Chief was to strengthen the cooperation that has been established between Indonesia and Singapore in terms of eradicating terrorism.

Moreover, he personally expressed his appreciation towards the efforts made by the Agency Chief in the bid to wipe out terrorism.

"This year, Singapore is the leader of ASEAN, so it is imperative that we establish a cooperation with the Agency, especially to address terrorism threats in the ASEAN region so that we can learn from Indonesia," he said.

He believed that terrorism threats still exist, and that everyone should maintain their awareness and alertness.

During the meeting the Agency Chief was accompanied by a number of Agency officials, while the Minister was accompanied by his staff, Nicholas Liem and Sean Lee.
