"The demand for the commodity from Singapore had increased rather significantly in the month of March, as compared to February, with 162 kilograms," Head of the Station Jimmy Elwaren remarked in Kupang, Friday.
Elwaren noted that in the first three months of 2018, the station had maintained a monthly record of the total demand for mackerel fish from Singapore.
In January, the demand was recorded to have reached 122 kilograms, while in February, it rose to 162 kilograms, and in March, the number went up significantly to 662 kilograms.
The station also recorded a total of 17,543 kilograms of the commodity exported to Singapore in 2017 worth approximately US$110 thousand.
Exports to Singapore are being carried out through air transportation, while exports to other destination countries, including Brunei Darussalam, China, Japan, and Timor Leste, are carried out through sea transport, with transits in Surabaya, East Java.
Apart from mackerel, various types of fish, including snapper, anggoli, and tuna loin, are also often exported to Singapore.
"Of all these commodities, we have noted that the most sought-after fish variety by Singapore is mackerel," he added.
